7 things to know about glass recycling in Adams County. (7/15/23)

  1. Glass recycling drop-off site: A new glass recycling drop-off site opens at 230 Greenamyer Lane in Gettysburg later this summer.
  2. Accepted items: Only glass bottles and jars will be accepted. Plate glass, mirrors, auto glass, ceramics, and china will not be accepted. The containers should be empty and free of hazardous residue. It’s preferable for the containers not to be broken for safety reasons.
  3. Recycling process: The drop-off site will be staffed by volunteers, and operation hours will depend on the availability of trained volunteers. Once sufficient glass is collected, vendors will transport the glass to a processing facility at no charge to the county. The glass will be recycled into new glass.
  4. Recycling bins: Local grassroots organizers are distributing recycled “City of Harrisburg” recycling bins for glass collection. Donated by the City of Harrisburg, they now sport an Adams County Recycles label.
  5. Grant Support: The county could qualify for performance grants from the PA Department of Environmental Protection based on the tonnage of glass recycled. Locally, the County received a grant from the Adams County Community Foundation’s Fund for the Environment to help make glass recycling possible.
  6. Volunteer opportunities: If you’re interested in volunteering, you can sign up when you pick up your recycling bin or email info@gettysburggreengathering.com for more information.
  7. Stay updated: Keep an eye on local news sources, gettysburggreengathering.com, and adamscountycf.org for announcements about the opening of the glass recycling drop-off site.
